Here on Truly Rich and Blessed, one of my goals is to inspire others to “discover and grow the riches they already have.” Believe it or not, if you’re reading this, you’re actually a lot richer than you think! You are actually already blessed in so many ways!
Being truly rich and blessed is not primarily about the material aspect of our lives (though being rich financially and resource-wise isn’t a bad thing, of course!). It’s more about having an “abundance mindset,” which is something I learned about from Brother/Kuya Bo Sanchez and from being a member of the Truly Rich Club.
But what is an abundance mindset in the first place? Well, in my own words, it’s really just about believing that there is already an abundance of blessings around us — all we need to do is to wait expectantly (and work hard, if we’re talking about financial blessings 😉 ) so we can receive them! We need to claim in faith that, yes-indeedy, we are #TrulyRichandBlessed!
Connected to having an abundance mindset is having a generous heart — which is one of the “secrets” of the “truly rich,” according to Kuya Bo. Yes, if you want to receive more, you should give more. Give back, especially to those in need.
I must admit that my family and I have a long way to go in concretely putting this into action. We have been involved in different causes over the years but we have yet to commit to a cause that we regularly give back to, whether in terms of time, talent or treasure (or all three!). I’d like to share what the aforementioned causes are here though, in the hope that maybe some of you out there would also like to help out somehow:
1. Concerts for a Cause
Since our eldest joined the CFA Homeschool Orchestra a few years ago, he has performed for three fundraising concerts so far. As his parents, we have also been part of the concerts somehow, helping in whatever way we can. Our most recent “concert for a cause” was for the medical needs of Kuya Arnold Candelaria, a fellow homeschooler who had a traumatic brain injury and had to undergo brain surgery.
As of this writing, he actually still needs our prayers — and any material assistance for his home care needs would be a huge blessing, too! Here is a short video about Kuya Arnold, which was made by a friend of the Candelarias, Marita Pierce (this is publicly posted on her Facebook profile).
If you feel moved to help the Candelaria family out in any way, please feel free to contact me.
2. Kalinga: Caring Is Our Business
Last year, we had the opportunity to make our homeschool support group‘s annual All Saints Day celebration more meaningful by collecting and packing items for the beneficiaries of the Arnold Janssen Kalinga Center run by the Society of the Divine Word (SVD).
"The Christian Origins of Halloween. 'Halloween' is a name that means nothing by itself. It is a contraction of 'All Hallows Eve,' and it designates the vigil of All Hallows Day, more commonly known today as All Saints Day. … As a verb, it means to make something holy or to honor it as holy.)" (Source: Catholicism.about.com) ❤️ All glory to You, O Lord, and thank you, Mama Mary, Queen of All Saints, for a fun and faith-filled pre-Halloween/All Saints Day party yesterday! 💕 The kids enjoyed our "Mercy and Merriment" party and were able to pack 60 "mercy goodies" lootbags for the streetkids who visit the Saint Arnold Janssen Kalinga Center, plus distribute Catholic tracts about praying for the saints' intercession — to complete strangers! 😊 Thank you to all the parents and kids who helped with the party in one way or another — our family is #trulyrichandblessed to be part of ROCKERS Philippines! 😇 Special thanks, too, to @mafaeb and @pioneerstmarket for accommodating us! God bless you! #keepthehallowinhalloween
The Center is run by Fr. Flavie Villanueva, SVD, who happens to be one of the priests we used to serve with in Timor Leste. (You can read more about the Center, and Fr. Flavie, here.)
Fr. Flavie has actually asked for our help to raise more funds for the Center. I’ve been thinking of how to do so — maybe we can organize a fundraiser or something like that soon — what do you guys think?
3. Grace to Be Born
Grace to Be Born Maternity Home and Orphanage is just one of the Mercy Ministries of the Light of Jesus Family. It is a ministry close to my heart because it helps pregnant women in crisis, and their babies, too.
We have yet to visit the actual premises of Grace to Be Born but I thank God that we were able to contribute financially to their cause last year.
Today, I cannot help but cry and praise God for all the blessings of these past months. Yes, we have undergone many trials as parents and as a family especially after Baby Titus was born, and we are still undergoing them now. But God has remained faithful to His word and His promises. ❤️ Through our burdens and crosses, He has even given us opportunities to share our blessings! 💕 I am posting this not to "brag" about what we have done but to encourage others to "pay it forward," as our good friends from @theparentingemporium always say. 💝 Through the #BestForBabyBlessABaby Fundraising Photo Shoots done by husband-and-wife team @carlojcecilio and @hyds0908 of #studioxoxophoto, and the kindness of the moms who participated, we have been able to donate a humble amount to #GraceToBeBorn Maternity Home and Nursery, which helps pregnant mothers in need, and their babies. 👶🏻 We remain humbled by the outpouring of love and prayers for Baby Titus, and we invite YOU, #TeamTitus members from all over, to join us in: (a) asking God for a miraculous healing for Titus, such that he will not need surgery for his undescended testes and hernia — if it is His will (in which case, we will donate all funds raised for his operation) and (b) seeking other ways to help ministries like Grace To Be Born. There are so many people — so many babies and kids — who need our help and prayers! 🙏🏻 Let's do what we can to show God's love to others, even in simple ways! 💕 God bless you all richly and abundantly! We are #trulyrichandblessed because we have you in our lives, as God's reminders of His unfailing love! ❤️ #ParenthoodShared #ItTakesAVillage
God used our trials last year so He could be glorified even more, I believe, and we were able to donate even more money to Grace to Be Born earlier this year, just before Titus had his operation. We responded to His call to give more from the funds we had raised for the surgery — something that may seem strange to others, but again, this is our response to His kindness and generosity. I pray that more and more people will be moved to give to the Lord in different ways, whether through Mercy Ministries like Grace to Be Born, or directly to the Church, which has many other ministries!
4. The Parenting Emporium
Before I end, I’d like to mention that over at The Parenting Emporium (TPE)— a retail social enterprise near and dear to me and my family, there are also different ways in which one can help those in need. I love how every purchase made at the TPE store benefits their Advocacies and Beneficiaries!
Well, these are just a few causes to which one can practice “giving back,” of course. I’d like to hear from YOU about how you practice giving to those in need, or if you haven’t started yet (and that’s perfectly all right — it’s never too late), how you plan to do so.
So go ahead — leave a comment and share how you give back to others. 🙂 Hope to hear from you!
Looking back to my younger years as a “nominal” Catholic growing up in a predominantly non-Christian country, I realize that I took my faith for granted for a very long time. I did not really have a personal relationship with God, and said my prayers because I was expected to; because it was our “obligation.”
It was only when I attended a youth activity at my parish — a retreat of sorts — that I began to see how God is Someone who not only created me but also loves me unconditionally and wants to be in a relationship with me. Still, it took me years to really grow in my love for the Lord, and I know I still have a long way to go in getting to know Him and deepening my faith.
Now, I don’t know how your faith walk was, has been, or is now but I do dare to say this: You and I most probably have ate least one thing in common.
We both have what you could call “dark” areas in our lives.
At one point or another on this road towards eternity, we have fallen. I still fall many, many, many times to this day. (Just ask my husband and kids!)
Fallen into sin. Fallen into dark pits of despair, hopelessness, apathy, and so on.
(It’s OK. God knows. He sees. He understands. He still loves us.)
And this is why I believe the upcoming Shine Forth! Holy Week Retreat is something you (and I!) should definitely attend.
But don’t take my word for it… Here’s an invitation from Brother/Kuya Bo Sanchez himself:
Every year, we have the Holy Week Retreat and it’s always extra special. It’s done in a very different way and people are just wowed. The way we do it, is we actually go to the level of where people are. We don’t begin with what is the revelation of God. We begin with what are the needs of the people.
What’s your need? What are you going through?
What’s your personal experience? Right now, what is your reality? And based there, we bring the revelation of God, we bring the voice of God in that situation you are in.
Are you in pain? Are you going through a need? Are you confused? Are you wandering? That’s where we’re going in. We’re allowing God to address your deepest needs.
And we’re very excited at what’s gonna happen in the Holy Week Retreat and in the Grand Easter Feast. Shining forth. That’s our theme. We’re so excited how God will make you shine forth.
At the end of the day, all of us have our own darkness,. All of us have our own confusion, All of us have chaos inside us. And yes, it is dark. But listen to this. Light dispels all darkness. And we’re gonna be praying that God’s light will come in and push out the darkness that is right now there within you.
It’s gonna be an awesome time and I want you to be there.
Kuya Bo won’t be the only speaker at the Retreat though. Expect to be inspired and encouraged by powerful Catholic preachers like Fr. Bob McConaghy, Fr. Bong Lo, Alvin Barcelona, Didoy Lubaton, John Ben Rodriguez, JC Libiran, and Audee Villaraza.
I know many, if not most, of you reading this may already have plans for this coming Holy Week but in case you don’t and are looking for a truly meaningful way to spend the holidays connecting (or reconnecting) to the Reason behind your much-deserved break from work and school, please do consider attending the Shine Forth! Holy Week Retreat on April 13-14 (and Grand Easter Feast on April 16).
As of this writing, tickets are still available but are running out quickly so hurry and get yours while you still can. You may buy them online via SMTickets.com or in person at any SM Tickets outlet. Tickets are also on sale at The Feast Bay Area. Hope to see you there! 🙂
What will you be doing this coming Holy Week? Whatever you choose to do, I hope you won’t forget to take time to reflect and connect with the One behind it all; the Holy One who is the main Reason for the upcoming break!
‘Tis the season for giving and sharing so I thought I’d pop in for a really quick post to invite you all to learn with me as COL Financial‘s very own Edward Lee — one of Kuya/Bro. Bo Sanchez’s mentors when it comes to being “truly rich” in the financial aspect — spills his secrets to investing in the stock market.
As you may (or may not! 😉 ) already know by now, my husband and I have been stock market investors for a while now, but we are still a looooong way off from being “truly rich” like Kuya Bo and Sir Edward are! That’s why we are committed to learning and investing as much as we can, not for our own personal gain but so we can bless our loved ones and those in need, too!
That’s why I’m extending Kuya Bo’s personal invitation to YOU, to join the webinar by Sir Edward Lee.
Below is the letter Kuya Bo sent out to us Truly Rich Club members:
For many years, I’ve been investing in the stock market.
And because of this, I know that I will retire a multimillionaire. As a
member of the TrulyRichClub, I know that you will also be the same.
Let’s bless other people more.
This coming December 18, 2016 at exactly 2:00 P.M. Manila time, I will hold
another webinar. But this time, I have a special treat for everyone. My
mentor, who has been investing in the stock market for 42 years, will spill
all his secrets, so you too can retire a multimillionaire.
The last webinar had thousands of viewers, and many of them are now
applying what they learned. I have no doubt that in a few years, they too,
will enjoy the fruits of what they’re planting now.
Let’s empower people to do the same to take charge of their finances, and
then become a blessing to others.
Invite people to joing us for another webinar happening this December 18,
2016 at 2:00 PM.
Remember, this webinar is ABSOLUTELY FREE OF CHARGE! You can sign up for it NOW here. I hope and pray it will bless you somehow!
By the way, if you’re looking for ways to have a more meaningful Christmas, please do follow my #TRBFaith and #LiturgicalLiving posts on Instagram and Facebook. I’m actually thinking of doing a Facebook Live session about it — would you guys be interested in something like that, if ever? Let me know in the comments, please! Thanks in advance. 🙂
Oh, and if you know someone who might be interested in attending the FREE Webinar by Sir Edward Lee, please feel free to share this post by clicking any of the buttons at the bottom of this post. Thank you and God bless!
Remember, you can learn how to retire as a multimillionaire from one of the best financial “experts” around, just by attending the webinar. Click here to register.
This one goes out especially to the married people out there. I know marriage is full of ups and downs, twists and turns, trials and triumphs. It’s not easy to die to yourself every day for the sake of your spouse. But — with God’s grace — it is possible.
Yes, conflicts are normal, but we can try to choose to love and forgive each other after all has been said and done.
Come to think of it: Christ’s love for us is “for better or for worse,” so if we call ourselves Christians, we must strive to show the same love to our spouses (and everyone else, for that matter, but most especially to our better halves!). Here’s a Preacher In Blue Jeans episode where I talk a bit about this kind of love.
My husband and I don’t have a perfect marriage but I consider myself #trulyrichandblessed to have him in my life. He saw me through many setbacks this month, one of which was this site being down — so when judges of the recently held Catholic Social Media Awards wanted to check it out, they couldn’t see it and it was automatically disqualified to be an official nominee! Oh well, there is always next year, and I know God probably just wants to make me more humble, among other things! 🙂
On a related note, I am privileged to have witnessed how God used my husband through the Kerygma Conference last weekend. You can catch snippets of it on their Facebook page. Praise God for all He can do through us imperfect, sinful people!
So anyway, back to the topic of at hand: Friends, I encourage you — Thank God for your spouses today! Let them know how much you appreciate them. Tell them that you are here for them, for better or for worse. May God bless your marriage and family life abundantly!
