You Can Homeschool: Join Us on November 16! (Plus a Giveaway!)

October 30, 2013 by Tina 18 Comments

*Note: The giveaway is closed and a winner has been chosen. Thank you!

Ever since we started homeschooling (well, more appropriately, realized that what we were doing was actually already homeschooling), I have been trying to encourage other people to at least explore the concept of teaching their kids at home. I even set up a separate homeschool blog when our eldest was still in preschool. I get inquiries from strangers, friends and family members about homeschooling.

Admittedly though, I am no expert and I still have a lot to learn about homeschooling. And yes, to be completely honest, there are days when I think, “Can I REALLY do this? Homeschool my kids? Teach them what they need to know?” (Yep, even non-newbies like me have those moments!)

It’s a good thing then that Manila Workshops and The Learning Basket are holding the YOU CAN HOMESCHOOL!  BE INSPIRED, BE INFORMED, BE EMPOWERED! event on November 16, 2013. It will be a great opportunity for me, as someone who’s currently homeschooling, to be inspired again, and reminded of why we have chosen to take this road less traveled by, as my new friend Jamie of Simple Homeschool calls it. If you’re not a homeschooler and are considering homeschooling, or are simply just curious to know what homeschooling is all about, this event is perfect for you, too!

You Can Homeschool Final 6

Here is more information about the event, from the press release by Manila Workshops:

Homeschooling is a global movement that is now becoming a viable option for Filipino families who want to provide their children with education beyond a classroom’s walls.

Manila Workshops, a company dedicated to continuing education for professional and personal goals, and The Learning Basket, an advocacy that inspires parents to be their children’s first and best teacher, have come together to offer an event jam-packed with information and inspiration about homeschooling that will help parents who are considering to educate their children at home.

You Can Homeschool! Be Inspired, Be Informed, Be Empowered! Is a day-long event happening on November 16, 2013, Saturday, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM at One Events and Café, One Corporate Center, Julia Vargas cor Meralco Ave, Pasig City.

Parents who are exploring, or are unsure of their homeschooling path, are encouraged to attend You Can Homeschool to gain an intimate look and understanding of home education. The key speakers of this event, Thammie Sy, Frannie Daez (who happens to be a published book author too), and , have all found their calling in homeschooling their children.

Here are some highlights to look forward to:

  • Be inspired by our speakers as they share about homeschooling from the heart, developing the homeschooling mindset, and how to homeschool in the Philippines
  • Testimonials from children who have experienced learning at home.
  • An overview of the homeschooling providers in the country, and the various services that they offer.
  • Intimate break-out discussions with homeschooling parents (Ahem.. I will be one of the facilitators for this, so I hope to meet you guys there! 😉 )

At the end of this summit, we hope to inspire parents to take on an active role in the education of their child. We aim to help them be informed of the realities of homeschooling, and learn how they can do it, too. Lastly, we want parents to be empowered with the inspiration and knowledge they have gained to take on the role of “teacher” in their homes.

So, are you ready to find out if you can homeschool? Join us on November 16 — just go here to register! 😉

Just to add a bit of fun, let’s have a giveaway, shall we? 😉 You can win A CRAFT KIT from  plus TWO tickets to the Philippine Science Centrum! (Note: This giveaway is open to Philippine-based readers only. The winner shall be notified via email and announced on .)

Event Alert: 3rd Babypalooza Bazaar (with an {Amazing Grace} Giveaway by AA’s Online Shop!)

August 12, 2013 by Tina 23 Comments

{The giveaway in this post is closed.}

Earlier this year, our family was able to go to the second Babypalooza Bazaar at the Walter Hogan Conference Center in the Ateneo de Manila University Campus. We went mostly to support my friends over at The Learning Basket, who had a booth there. We were also able to buy some cloth diapers on sale from , as part of our preparations for Anne’s birth. 🙂 As in the first Babypalooza Bazaar, we had a pleasant shopping (well, mostly browsing, ha, ha!) experience. 😉

So when Kat of Babypalooza asked if I could help promote their third bazaar, I agreed without any hesitation. Y’all may know that I have a soft spot in my heart for mompreneurs, and I try to support them as much as I can, in my own little way. 😉

Anyway, friends, let me invite you to the 3rd Babypalooza Bazaar this August! 🙂

Thanking God for the Gift of Life {+ An Amazing Grace Giveaway by Mommy & Baby Essentials!}

April 15, 2013 by Tina 24 Comments

I always like to say that this gift of life that we have all been blessed with is something to be truly thankful for. I am always grateful, too, when other people feel the same way, and tell me so — even complete strangers! 🙂 It is such a blessing to be able to connect with other people who appreciate God’s gifts and presence in their lives, and want to “pay it forward” in their own way!

One such person I’ve met — though only online so far — is mompreneur Theresa Orteza of . I was honored to host a few giveaways for her last year, and she was even so kind as to send me an encouraging book for moms, too, just because. I know she’s an intentional parent, too — just look at her Facebook cover photo:

Happy Feast of the Annunciation! + An Amazing Grace Giveaway by Shepherd’s Voice Publications {How to Turn Your Passion into Profit}

April 8, 2013 by Tina 1 Comment

Today is the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord. Here’s a brief description and a happy image from the :

The Annunciation of the Lord
(Traditionally celebrated on March 25, but due to Holy Week in 2013, this Solemnity is celebrated on April 8, 2013 this year

annunciatio
God sent the Angel Gabriel to Mary, a young girl betrothed to Joseph. The Angel said to her: “Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women. Do not be afraid for you have found grace with God. Behold, you shall bear a Son, and you shall call Him Jesus.He will be called the Son of God.” Mary said “I am the handmaid of the Lord. Let it be done to me according to Your Word.” (Luke 1:26-38)

In line with our 50-day long Easter celebration over here at the blog, we have another special Amazing Grace giveaway! {The first one by Babies to Toddlers is still ongoing, so if you want to join it, just click here.}

This time, Shepherd’s Voice Publications (SVP) is giving away an AUTOGRAPHED copy of one of their newly-launched books, How to Turn Your Passion into Profit, by Bo Sanchez and Dean Pax Lapid!

BookCover-600x920

If you’ve never heard of Bo Sanchez and Dean Pax Lapid, here’s a bit of information about them:

Bo Sanchez is a millionaire missionary-businessman while is a professor of Entrepreneurship at the prestigious Asian Institute of Management and a “serial” entrepreneur (he builds one business a year!). They will guide you as you start your business through their practical, step-by-step book, How to Turn Your Passion into Profit.

BookAd-600x776

I was privileged to be among the first group of people to read this book (well, it’s part of my job, right?) and it is really one of the best business books I’ve read so far. I love that Kuya Bo writes about the “heart” one needs to be in business, and how Dean Pax writes about the “head” — in simple terms that are easy to understand. After reading the book, I’m sure most of you, if not all of you, will start thinking, “What business can I get into, given my talents and gifts?” (Me and my colleagues certainly did!)

The book also describes 8 Keys to Build a Truly Rich Business, and discusses the “hardware” and “software” of starting a business. Readers will learn important principles that will save them from the most common pitfalls that make businesses fail. It also tells you why passion is NOT enough to turn your passion into profit and why “scarcity” is good for you as you start your business. It will also tell you why you should ALMOST NEVER compete on price… and so much more! 🙂

UPDATED! Truly Rich Recommendations: Babies to Toddlers Online Shop + An {Amazing Grace Easter} Giveaway!

April 1, 2013 by Tina 21 Comments

*Note (as of April 20, 2013): The giveaway has ended.*

Last month, I was privileged to be invited to the launch of Babies to Toddlers, an online shop that offers hard-to-find items for babies and toddlers. I was really psyched that I was among the mom bloggers invited — you all know that I don’t consider this blog to be as “famous” as other local mom blogs, right? 😉 So I was really humbled and honored to be there. You can see some of the pictures of the launch .

I had actually heard of Babies to Toddlers even before the launch, through Martine’s blog, Dainty Mom. I’d seen some of the items they offered back then, and am pleased that there are a lot more options and brands available now.

This Aqueduck Children Faucet Extender is one of the items featured on Martine's blog a few years back. I thought it was a really cool product, and I still think it is actually! :)

Babies to Toddlers is a one-stop shop that carries a carefully selected assortment of the finest quality baby gear, nursing and feeding accessories, baby aids plus a variety of wooden mobiles, toys, and more. You’ll really be surprised at how innovative some of the items are. When I browsed through their revamped website a while back, I actually wanted to make a wish list for Baby Anne right that very moment! 🙂

One of the things I like about Babies to Toddlers is the fact that “each product is pre-selected for innovation, excellence, social consciousness, development appropriateness and styles.” Who does this, you may ask?

Well, a fellow mommy, of course! 🙂 Mompreneur Teresa Rufino, who happens to have two kids of her own, developed and runs BabiestoToddlers.com, along with her uber-supportive husband Charles.

See how supportive Charles is in the photos below? 🙂 I love how both he and Teresa are intentional about their parenting. 🙂 After the launch proper, we were able to talk a bit about breastfeeding and taking care of our babies. 🙂

Teresa and Charles describe their online shop as a no-nonsense website made for busy parents on the go. The website itself is simple and utilitarian in design, with all the features of the latest online stores sans the clutter.

“To enhance our customers’ shopping experience online, we designed our website to be user-friendly. Buying baby gear can be overwhelming with so many choices available. We make it easier for our customers by offering the best products available out there. We’ve done the legwork for you. Our collection includes many of your must-have baby items pre-sorted to include only the most eco-friendly, stylish and innovative products. In addition, we make sure that the ordered items are delivered to our customers as quickly as possible,” Teresa says.

Here are some of the things I personally like from their website (OK, so does this count as a wish list of sorts for Anne — and our other kids and myself too? He, he!):

ah goo kiwi bag-250x250

Ah goo Grab and Go Bag — I like that this is “unisex” in appearance. 🙂 Most of the baby bags available locally have prints that are too girly, and I want one that hubby can use too.

accua yellow-250x250

Maamam Multi-Use Hooded Towel — This would be great for keeping myself dry while drying Anne at the same time too. :)

Undercover Mama Nursing Shirt — I have no nursing clothes at all and would love to have one of these! :)

Peek Away 4 in 1 Nursing Pillow Kit — This would be nice to have! :)

bella butterfly-250x250

Melissa and Doug Bella Butterfly Picnic Set — For our little Therese, of course! :)

Golly Gee-Pers Table Manners Game — For Tim, and for Rysse, too! :)

zoli buzz

Zoli Buzz B Baby Nail Trimmer — I have this phobia of cutting our babies’ nails, because when Rysse was a baby, I wounded her little finger when I tried cutting her nails! 🙁 So this would really come in handy!

These oversized disposable potty covers are perfect for our little girls — to keep them safe from the ickiness of public toilets! We were given a pack to try out, but I'd love to stock up on these!

OK, those are just SOME of the things I want from Babies to Toddlers! 🙂 Well, there’s nothing wrong with wishing, right? 🙂

Another unique feature of Babies to Toddlers is the online ordering process. It’s very easy, and if you’re a busy mom, or on bedrest like me, it’s really convenient! All one needs to do is register and order. To pay, you can opt for COD (cash on delivery), bank deposit or PayPal — I love the COD option! 🙂

Another plus is that for orders worth more than P1,000, shipping is free within Metro Manila. The site also features contact numbers for any customer concerns and a helpful FAQ page for newbies to Internet shopping.

Now, providentially, just in time for my planned series of Amazing Grace giveaways this Easter season, Babies to Toddlers is sponsoring a giveaway on the blog! Yey! 🙂 ONE blessed winner can win 1 Aqueduck Children Faucet Extender and 1 Potty Cover set! 🙂
