My post yesterday on philstar.com was about how Mathemagis makes Singapore Math fun for kids. Mathemagis is a Singapore Math enrichment/tutorial center that aims to help children (and their possibly “clueless” parents — I know I’m a bit clueless when it comes to Singapore Math!) gain a better understanding of Singapore Math and apply it to everyday life.

They were actually there to be part of a shoot featuring Mathemagis, but it didn’t push through. Still, they enjoyed meeting new friends (and teachers!), and exploring and experimenting with the different math manipulatives and science equipment there.

Anyway, I’m so pleased to invite you to a special Singapore Math seminar/workshop that I’ve organized for our homeschool group. Teacher Joanne Sison of Mathemagis will be giving it, and she’ll be covering the basics of Singapore Math for the Kindergarten to Grade 2 levels. This will be on August 22, 2013, 9a.m. to 12noon, at the Medela House in New Manila, Q.C. The registration fee of P500 per person will cover Teacher Joanne’s training fee and is inclusive of handouts. 🙂

By the way, my good friends Mariel and Sanne of The Learning Basket will be there, too, and they’ll be selling some of their wonderful children’s books. I do hope to meet some of you at the seminar! 🙂

Mission

To help more Filipino kids develop their analytical and problem-solving skills in math through enjoyable activities, logical topic progression and deep understanding of math concepts enabling them to appreciate the beauty and power of math.

Description

Mathemagis is an after-school enrichment program for based on Singapore’s proven and effective mathematics curriculum and methodology. Mathemagis focuses on developing children’s analytical and problem solving skills through the use of bar-model approach to analyze word problems. It also follows Singapore’s concrete –> visual –> abstract –> progression of teaching math concepts which makes math more understandable and fun for kids of various skill levels and interests.

General Information

The Mathemagis program is open to children 4 years old and above. It is divided into three main parts. Preschoolers, Levels 1 – 3 (Beginners – Intermediate) and Levels 4 – 6 (Intermediate to Advanced) Preschoolers (4 – 6 yo) willl develop early math skills and concepts through concrete and visual math activities aimed at boosting their confidence and abilities in doing math. Students in levels 1- 3 build a strong math foundation in their problem-solving and analytical skills and a deep understanding and application of basic math concepts. Mastery of numerical, geometic, algebraic and statistical math concepts and problem-solving is the primary aim of levels 4 – 6.

Galileo’s 2-Week Free Trial Starts on November 12!

I wanted to post this tomorrow for a Freebie Friday post, but I thought you all might be interested in reading this as soon as possible. I got this exciting news in my inbox today:

Galileo Enrichment Learning Program is holding its annual two-week FREE trial promo between November 12 to 24, 2012! 🙂

I JUST signed Tim up for free Math trial classes at the center nearest our place, which is located in Kinderfield Learning Center. It’s funny because Kinderfield was one of the schools I inquired at when we were still discerning whether or not to continue homeschooling him. 🙂 I’m hoping he’ll enjoy the lessons (though I’m not sure if we can actually enroll him for regular classes, teehee!). Let’s see how it goes! 🙂 Each trial class lasts for 30 minutes and classes are twice a week, according to the teacher I spoke to.

The is OFFICIALLY OPEN! 🙂 Go, go, go, book-lovers! (Though I think even NON-book-lovers should drop by, too!) 😀
