September is Baby Safety Month: Celebrate with “Safety Zone”, An Event in Support of Children’s Hour (+ A Giveaway!)

September 4, 2014 by Tina

I’ve heard people say that being a parent means having an “extension of your heart” outside of yourself. Isn’t that so true?! Aside from all our other roles and responsibilities, we worry about our children’s diet, skin care, physical health, social and mental development… the list goes on and on! (In the case of homeschooling moms like me, we also worry about whether our children are learning what they’re “supposed” to be learning, etc. etc.!)

With so many other things to be concerned about, it helps to be knowledgeable on the everyday dangers that our children may be exposed to, and how to protect them. Educating ourselves can help us make informed choices for the benefit of our little ones. After all, “knowledge is power,” as they say, and ignorance is not an excuse!

Learn all you can at “Safety Zone” and support Children’s Hour, too!

This is why I’d like to invite you to “Safety Zone”, a community charity event brought to you by and Halo SleepSack Philippines.   In celebration of Baby Safety Month this September, “Safety Zone” brings together all the trusted brands that help safeguard your child. This charity event aims to educate guests on what every parent must know to keep your child safe, while raising funds in support of Children’s Hour. [Read more…]

On Being Empowered: Will I See You at the Kerygma Conference?

November 21, 2013 by Tina

As I write this post, the first day of the Kerygma Conference 2013 is just hours away. My husband and the other people behind the Conference have been preparing for it for months now, and I can’t believe how quickly time has flown. So many things have happened this year, to me, to our family, and to our country. Well, to our whole world actually.

And even as we Filipinos are banding together — along with many caring people from all over the world — to help rebuild the lives of many who have suffered calamity after calamity, I believe that we must remember that we cannot do this alone. Call me idealistic or “holier-than-thou” or whatever, but I believe that apart from God, our efforts will only be in vain.

We need His grace.

We need His strength.

We need His power.

And this, my friends, is what the Kerygma Conference this year is all about — Being Empowered.

If you’re free this weekend (or even later and Friday, too), I invite you to come and be empowered. Just click on the image above or here for more details. Part of the proceeds of the Conference will go to the relief efforts for the Typhoon Yolanda victims, as the Light of Jesus Family .

kconcares

I’ll only be able to attend the conference on Saturday and Sunday though — my kids are super excited to attend the Awesome Kids class on Sunday too! It will be about God’s Superheroes. If you want to bring your children, just register here.

Hope to see you there! If you see me walking around (hopefully not looking too “harrassed” with three kids in tow, ha, ha!), please do say Hi! 🙂 And if you won’t be able to come, please do include the Conference and everyone involved in it, and everyone attending, in your prayers!

Truly Rich Recommendations {Events}: Havaianas Design a Smile (Year 2) + The Mommy Mundo Bazaar

November 21, 2012 by Tina

I’ve written before about why I love Mommy Mundo. I love that Janice, the mom behind it, is so in touch with the needs of others, especially other moms. (I’m also privileged to count Janice as a friend!)

I love that Janice and her team at Mommy Mundo strive hard to “pay it forward,” i.e. to share blessings with others, even through the events they organize.

One such event is the upcoming Mommy Mundo Bazaar this weekend, Nov. 24 and 25, at the Rockwell Tent. (I won’t be able to attend this year because my officemates and I will be serving at the Kerygma Conference, along with everyone else who works at The Lighthouse {that’s what we call the building that houses all of Bo Sanchez’s ministries.})

Mommy Mundo will be launching exciting things at the Bazaar — including the 2013 Edition of the MOM 24/7 Planner (I SO LOVED the 2012 version, and wrote about it on Smart Parenting here if you want to know why), and SoMoms. Find out more by visiting the Mommy Mundo website.

The Bazaar will also include a special “event for a cause” — the Havaianas Design a Smile Contest. Here are some details from the press release:

Havaianas Pays it Forward with Design a Smile 2 for the Benefit of Operation Smile

When was the last time you made someone else smile? That is the question Havaianas asks you as it launches the Havaianas Design a Smile 2, a flip-flops design contest for the benefit of Operation Smile Philippines.

First launched in 2010, Havaianas Design a Smile gives children the chance to show their artistic talents by designing the next Havaianas Smile pair – a special design which will be produced into an actual Havaianas pair, with a percentage of the sales to be donated to Operation Smile Philippines, a non-profit organization which provides life-changing surgeries to children with cleft lips and cleft palates. The initial run generated more than 2,000 entries and raised more than PHP 100,000 from donations alone during this period.

“Havaianas believes that summer is a state of mind and can be lived every day of the year whenever you adopt a happy and carefree attitude,“ shares Anne Gonzalez, Managing Director of Havaianas Philippines. “And nowhere else is that more evident than in children. With Havaianas Design a Smile, we hope to generate funds and awareness to support Operation Smile in our shared mission to spread smiles all over the world.”

This November to January, Havaianas Design a Smile 2 is back, with the theme “Paying it Forward: Kids Helping Kids.” Beginning November 24th, artistically inclined kids can join Havaianas Design a Smile by submitting their designs illustrating their answer to the question “What will you do to make other people smile?” at partner events nationwide, beginning with the Bonifacio Global City Passion Fest at Bonifacio High Street from November 24 to 26, and at the Mommy Mundo Bazaar at the Rockwell Tent from November 24 to 25. Winners will receive exciting prizes from Havaianas, bobble, Pininho, Hobbes and Landes, McDonald’s, and Sony. The grand prize winner will also have his or her design produced as part of the Havaianas 2014 Collection as the Havaianas Smile pair, with a percentage of the sales from which will help fund the operations of Operation Smile.

“The response from our initial run was overwhelming,” says Ammiel de Leon, Group Director, “this year, we hope to enrich our partnership with Operation Smile even more and involve more people all over the Philippines in Havaianas and Operation Smile’s advocacy to give children their smiles.”

Havaianas Design a Smile 2 kicks off at the Bonifacio Global City Passion Fest at Bonifacio High Street, Fort Bonifacio Global City, Taguig from November 23 to 25, and at the Mommy Mundo Bazaar at the Rockwell Tent, Rockwell PowerPlant Mall, Makati City from November 24 to 25. Like the Havaianas Philippines Official Facebook page at  to find out other events that the Havaianas Design a Smile 2 booth will be visiting.

Havaianas celebrates its 50th year of sharing summer happiness this 2012. Experience the

Truly Rich Recommendations {Events}: The ANCOP Global Walk 2012: Make A Difference — Walk For A Scholar!

July 11, 2012 by Tina

I have blogged about the ANCOP Global Walk before and am honored to share this press release below about this year’s version of the event. 🙂 I highly recommend the ANCOP Global Walk 2012 as a fun and purpose-filled way to spend your Sunday! 🙂 Be the change you want to see in the world!
Come walk for a scholar on August 12, 2012 at the Quirino Grandstand! 🙂
{If you’re excited to know more details without reading the press release below, please go to the ANCOP Global Walk 2012 Facebook page , event page or, better yet, go to the official website here.}

I WILL WALK FOR A SCHOLAR. WALK WITH ME!

CFC ANCOP Launches Benefit Walk To Help Send Thousands Of Scholars To School

Every year, more than half of the children who enroll in and finish grade school are not able to enter high school. According to studies, school children drop out of school because of malnutrition, health and sanitation reasons, difficult access to the nearest school, and child labor. The underlying culprit: poverty.

During the late 1990s, the lay Catholic organization Couples for Christ (CFC) was led to turn their focus on the poor.  Subsequently, programs on shelter rehabilitation, education and livelihood were funded and implemented, initially in Metro Manila.  In the year 2000, inspired by the theme from Luke 4:18, Couples for Christ embraced the work of bringing glad tidings to the poor.

ANCOP (Answering the Cry of the Poor)is the primary support of Couples for Christ’s work with the poor since Day 1.  ANCOP USA, ANCOP Canada and ANCOP Australia were the three staunchest campaigners for awareness and resources that support the work with the poor programs.  Six years ago, ANCOP Canada spearheaded the ANCOP Walk, mainly to be a means to make people aware of the work and to solicit financial support for the ANCOP Child Sponsorship Program.  Subsequently, ANCOP USA adapted the same walk-for-a-cause concept, conducting simultaneous walks in different states.  In 2011, the inspiration to go global began.  Thus, the birth of the first ANCOP GLOBAL WALK.

Last August 21, 2011, an estimated 50,000 walkers from Metro Manila gathered at the SM Mall of Asia grounds to stage the first ANCOP Global Walk.  Thousands more from 60 provinces and 7 countries gathered in strategic locations in their respective areas to simultaneously walk for 5 kilometers bringing one message: I WILL WALK FOR A SCHOLAR. WALK WITH ME! The event was able to raise funds for the education of 1,000 students.
The event drew many corporate and individual sponsors, among them Petron, Pocari Sweat, Banco de Oro, Chinabank, Yamaha, Tricom and Maynilad.  Associations such as the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association of the Philippines, the academe such as the Far Eastern University and Samson Institute of Technology, as well as government offices like the Department of Foreign Affairs, PhilHealth, and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas also showed their support for the ANCOP Global Walk.

For current CFC ANCOP Chairman Jose Yamamoto the walk was truly a “huge success”.

“This has shown that the people, whether CFC or non-CFC, can and will get together if the common purpose is good,” Yamamoto added.

On August 12, 2012, at 5:00 AM, walkers will again come together, this time at the Quirino Grandstand at the Luneta in Manila, to walk for a scholar.  Walkers from the confirmed 41 provinces, the USA and Canada are likewise drumming up interest for people to join the walk.
According to CFC ANCOP President Eric de los Reyes, “The challenge this year is to gather 150,000 walkers from Metro Manila alone.  Through ANCOP Global Walk 2012, let us all answer the needs of last year’s scholars and raise more funds to benefit 1,000 new children.”
———
ANCOP is an acronym for ANSWERING THE CRY OF THE POOR.  It is the institutional and social response of the Couples for Christ Global Mission Foundation Inc. (CFC) to help the poor and the less privileged.  CFC attends to their needs through programs in education, health, community development, and livelihood, administered by the CFC-ANCOP Tekton Foundation Inc.
The registration for the ANCOP Global Walk is currently ongoing.  Walkers may either fill out a registration form and submit and pay to any Couples for Christ member, or to the ANCOP Global Walk Secretariat located at 29 Evergreen Drive, Capitol Green Village, Bgy. Tandang Sora, Quezon City.  The AGW Secretariat may be reached via telephone numbers and ; fax number ; e-mail .  Participants may also register online via www.ancopglobalwalk.com and pay via BDO Bills Payment facility.  Registration fee is Php 300.
