I was contacted last month by someone working for Chinet, specifically about their campaign for their stylish new ComfortCups. Dubbed “Random Acts of Kindness,” Chinet asked people what they would do with $1,000 to make the world a better place. Every week, Chinet received hundreds of entries and selected winners, rewarding their goodwill with the money to fulfill their random act of kindness.
Actually, watching this video made me realize again how simple acts of kindness can actually make a difference in other people’s lives. This is something I learned firsthand during a Summer House Training (SHOUT) I attended as a campus-based leader of CFC Youth for Christ (waaayy back when I could still fit into a size-25 pair of jeans! LOL! 😉
Part of our SHOUT involved training on servant evangelism, something our leaders probably picked up from Steve Sjogren. We had to perform random acts of kindness for complete strangers, e.g. give them bottles of water, treat them to “dirty” ice cream for the local ice cream vendor, help carry their bags, etc.
Think about it… Kindness is really something we all need AND lack at one time or another… I mean, wouldn’t it be great if we were the recipients AND doers of such random acts of kindness every day? What a different world it would be!
Call me idealistic or a dreamer, but I believe one doesn’t have to be promoting something in order to be kind. However, the people did a great job in reminding us about it, didn’t they? 🙂
So let’s resolve to be a bit kinder today, shall we? (I’m going to start with my own husband and kids and our househelp — I know I haven’t been as kind to them as I’d like to be this past week!)
How do you promote kindness in your family and community? I’d love to read your thoughts! 🙂 Please feel free to comment below!
