In memory of Wang Yue

If you’ve been on social networks like Facebook or Twitter recently, you probably have heard about or maybe even watched the video about the Chinese toddler, Wang Yue, who was involved in a hit and run accident then ignored by passersby. (In case you have the stomach for it, you can watch it here, but doing so will probably just leave you sick at heart, outraged and maybe even in tears – I know I was!).
The incident has sparked outrage everywhere, including among the Chinese themselves. Eighteen people were seen on the CCTV footage totally ignoring the little girl, who was unconscious and bleeding. How could people just walk by as if the little girl lying there was a cat or similar animal that was run over? Surely if someone had come to Yue’s aid earlier, she would not have been run over a second time, and she may have even lived through the incident. Sadly though, she did not. As a mother of a 2-year-old girl myself, it broke my heart to watch the video. I was in tears and outraged, thinking “What has our world come to?” I could only pray for the poor little girl’s soul, comfort for her grieving parents (who must feel terribly guilty for letting her wander away from their shop) and the entire Chinese community as well. *This is just a preview of my post for the week on Philstar.com’s unBLOGGED section.
