This post is the sixth of 7 posts that I’ll be writing this week, as my response to Jen @ Conversion Diary’s 2nd Epic Blogging Challenge. To God be all the glory!
{Off topic: As I write this, my grandfather is getting weaker and weaker by the minute. He was recently diagnosed with lung cancer so this — coupled with his emphysema — has been causing him great difficulty in breathing. He is already 88 years old, and has lived a full life indeed, but we still hope for a miracle: that God will grant us at least a few more months with him! Please join us in praying for my Lolo! We, of course, surrender to God’s holy will!}
Now, back to ‘regular programming.’
If you are exploring homeschooling and wish to look at the choices you have for local DepEd-accredited providers, this list from HAPI (Homeschool Association of the Philippine Islands) — complete with the description of each provider may be of help to you {sorry to copy and paste this from the website but we’re preparing to leave for a “family field trip” now}:

A homeschooling program founded by Bo Sanchez and a team of homeschooling moms. CFA provides a Quick Start Training program to assist families who are homeschooling for the first time. Parent coaches help parents identify the learning style and reading type of the child so as to make homeschooling a better, more fulfilling experience. They help parents build a unique CFA standard lesson plan which maps out the subjects and activities for the school year. Parents can also get training through CFA-hosted Parenting Enrichment Seminars. There are optional CFA clubs the homeschool kids can join for the experience of learning with other kids. CFA holds support groups that get together on a quarterly basis for parents and kids to meet and encourage one another and share experiences and lessons.

Hi Ms. Tina! I just want to ask regarding homeschooling elementary students, but first let me share with you our family background to give you more information regarding our situation. We are a family of seven, my dad is an ofw and mom is a plain housewife. Unfortunately my dad lost his job, because of this 2 of my brothers need to stop school for quite a long time. Fast forward to today, my youngest brother is already 18 years old and was only able to finish grade 4. He doesn’t want to go to a regular school and I perfectly understand his reasons. My question is, I’m aware that in order for parents to homeschool their kids they need to be college graduates, but my mom isn’t. Can I be the one to homeschool my brother? If yes, which school has the cheapest fees because I have now my own family and were trying to make ends meet but at the same time I want to help my brother. Your answer will be very much appreciated and I’m sincerely hoping and praying that you can help me identify solutions. Thank you very much for your time. Have a great day ahead and God bless.
Tina says
Hi Jeanne! Thank you for sharing your family’s story with me. Regarding your question, I’m not so sure about that, i.e. if you can be the one to homeschool your brother IF what you’re looking for is DepEd-accredited homeschooling. I’ll forward your question to a fellow homeschooler who has links with DepEd, who may be able to answer your question.
Having said that, if your goal is to homeschool or teach your brother, you can do it even if he’s not enrolled anywhere — IF he doesn’t have plans of going to college locally but he just wants to finish his grade/high school education.
Another option you may want to explore is the Alternative Learning System of DepEd. From what I know, it is free or you have to pay very little, compared to if you were to enroll in a local homeschool provider. http://www.deped.gov.ph/index.php/bureau-alternative-learning-system
I honor you for wanting to help your brother and your family. 🙂 You are such a blessing! God bless always!

Hi, I’m a single parent and I work at night. I’m having problem with my eldest son who is now 9 years old and a Grade 3 student. I recently took him from my mother because he is having issues with his study. I transferred him here in Manila but he still skips his classes. I wanted to try home schooling. Can you please suggest DepEd accredited Home Schools and how much are the fees. Your reply is very much appreciated. Thank you.
Tina says
Hi, Bernadette! 🙂 I am so sorry for the late reply. I thought I had already sent a reply last week but apparently, it did not get posted. Anyway, re: your concern, you can check out this link for DepEd accredited homeschools: http://hapihomeschooler.com/about-hapi/hapi-members-affiliates/ It would be best to contact them individually to ask for the fees and maybe even orientations that you could attend.
Having said that, I hope you don’t mind me saying that if your son has been skipping classes there might be deeper ‘issues’ at hand, that may be causing him to do so. I don’t know enough about your family background but I am praying for you and your son, and everyone else in your family! God bless!
Bernadette Reyes says
Thanks for your reply . My sons did not skip schooling they are in grade 4 & 5 next year. I would like to inquire how much is the tuition fee for grade 4 & 5 for home schooling? Is home schooling expensive? Cause we dont have much money to spend my husband is a government employee. Is there a low cost home schooling program? Thanks for your attention in responding to my question.
Tina says
Hello, Bernadette! So sorry for the late reply. The tuition depends per homeschool provider, so it would best to contact them separately. (I’ve listed some of the homeschool providers above.) God bless!
Cristy says
Hi,
I am working overseas with my husband, and we used to have our child with us, but since she is already in her elementary school age we decided to bring her back home in the Philippines to attend a regular school, because we are planning to go back home for good in few years and we taught it is best for her to start schooling in the philippines so that she can get used to it. But, lately we are having a feeling of uneasiness and we are thinking of bringing her back with us and we are considering home schooling for her. I just wanted to ask it good/possibleto pull her out of school in the middle of the school year, and continue her study in the same grade enrolling in home school program,? Or is ir better for her to finished the school year and start the next grade in home school program.
I will really appreciate your thoughts on this matter. Thank you very much.
Tina says
Hi Cristy! 🙂 Thanks for dropping by. Re: your question, I believe there are certain homeschool providers that may allow you to enroll your child in the same grade. It really depends on where you will be enrolling her. If you opt for a DepEd-accredited provider, it’s best to contact them directly. For US-based providers like Kolbe Academy, you can enroll anytime (based on my knowledge). Hope this helps you. God bless! 🙂
Luc says
Hi Ma’am Tina,
I would like to ask if it is possible to kids living abroad (neighboring ASEAN countries) to enroll in home-schooling program accredited by DepEd.
Thanks,
Luc
Tina says
Hi Luc! 🙂 Yes, it is very possible. CFA has a number of enrollees based abroad, like the Middle East, Singapore, etc. So does TMA, I think. 🙂 Best to send an email to the provider you have in mind. For CFA Grade School, it’s . For CFA High School, email . You can tell them that I referred you. 🙂 God bless!
Sheila Kathleen Japay says
I have an 11 year old daughter who was diagnosed with symptomatic autism almost 9 years ago. She underwent occupational therapy for almost 2 years and she is now at par with her age cognitively/academically. She is now in grade 5 at a “big school” here in Davao. But despite of being at par with her peers in terms of academic standing, she is still socially and emotionally behind. She is being bullied and has no friends in school. Because of these predicaments, I pity my child and silently cried for her. I want her to be home schooled to spare her of the negative effects of bullying. I broach to her the idea of home schooling and she was very pleased to hear it. Please help me find a DepEd accredited home school here in Davao. By the way, her tutor is a licensed teacher, could she be the home teacher because I am a working Mom.
Tina says
Hi Sheila! 🙂 I am so so sorry for my late reply. I have been busy and, lately, been sick as well. I am sorry to hear about your child being bullied. Please be assured of my prayers for your family! Regarding your question about DepEd accredited homeschools, you can check out this list of providers: http://hapihomeschooler.com/about-hapi/hapi-members-affiliates/. As far as I know, all of them accept provincial-based enrollees. God bless you and your plans!

Good day Ms. Tina! I am Gracielle Baclayo, a 2nd year college taking up bachelor in secondary education major in mathematics in University of Mindanao in Davao City. I am currently doing my research paper in my English 201 class about homeschooling in the Philippines. I was kinda hoping if I could get more information about home schooling from you since you have experienced it yourself. Any knowledge you could impart would be much appreciated. Thank you so much and May God bless you more! 🙂
Tina says
Hi Gracielle! 🙂 Thanks for your message. Please send me an email, and I will TRY to help you in any way I can; my plate is just TOO full right now! God bless always! 🙂

Tina says
Hi James! 🙂 Yes, you can enroll your kids. First of all, it would be best for you to explore which homeschooling provider best suits your needs. You can contact them one by one and ask for the schedule of their orientations. You may refer to the list on my post for local providers. God bless!

Hello….
I am currently a high school teacher in our place but more importantly a sinner saved by grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. I just want to ask if how i am going to use my license as teacher to apply a home schooling program? Precisely because i am christian and planning to resign in my job right now and just help my churchmates’ children to have just a homeschooling anothet reason is that i am trying to compromise in school programs which are not biblical and against to God’s Word. And when i heard about this my church is planning to apply to this program as soon as possible possible, can you help me, please?
Tina says
Hi! 🙂 I am sorry but I don’t quite understand what you mean. Do you mean how you — as a teacher — can help others homeschool their kids? If yes, then it will be like a tutorial of sorts. 🙂 God bless you!
Meanne says
Hi Tina,
I’m so glad to come across your blog and found it so informative.
Quick question pls. How about The School of Tomorrow? Are they accredited with DepEd too? Any reviews you can give on SOT?
Thanks very much and hope you and your family are all keeping well.
God bless 🙂
Tina says
Hi Meanne,
Sorry for the late reply. I gave birth recently and have been preoccupied with caring for our newborn, who has been having health issues. Anyway, I apologize but I can’t give you much feedback about SOT. You can try reading Mommy Donna Donor’s blog though; as far as I know, her son is enrolled with SOT, so maybe you can try contacting her: http://homeschoolerkib.blogspot.com/. God bless you and your family!
Liza says
Hi,
Which office of the Dep Ed should we ask about homeschooling? Are we required to enrol with a provider? What are the responsibilities of a provider?
Tina says
Hi Liza,
Sorry but I am not so sure about which office will serve you best, as the homeschoolers who have contacted DepEd have different experiences. However, you can try calling DepEd and asking about Home Education Programs. The advantages of enrolling with a DepEd-accredited homeschool provider: 1. You need not worry about DepEd accreditation. 2. You will have access locally to people who can guide you and support you on your homeschooling journey. God bless you!

Hello! I’m a single mom my son is 11 years old and he will turn 12 this year. We moved from another town in Manila last year. I wasn’t able to enroll him at his school (it’s a private school located in Marikina). We decided to hire a private tutor (he’s from Spain) for the whole whole year he’s been teaching my son. He’s incoming Grade 6 for this school year. I’m a little worried and that my son doesn’t want to be enrolled since the school admin is telling me my son needs to complete his 5th grade, so basically to our understanding he will stay in 5th grade this coming school year. And i was devastated because my son’s confidence drenched and he said he doesn’t want to see his old classmates and friends from that school cause they may tease him etc. Is there any option where he can get like an exam or what not even in DepEd just to prove he’s good to advance for the 6th grade curriculum? Please advise. Thank in advance!
Tina says
Hi, Angel! 🙂 Thank you for sharing your story. I believe your son can take the PEPT, an exam that DepEd gives for students who stopped schooling (or did not go to school in a DepEd-accredited facility). You may inquire with DepEd about this. Thanks and God bless!
Angel says
Thank you Tina! 🙂
Xiley says
Hi… uhm I am a Grade 7 student who doesn’t want to go to school anymore because of bullying… but the problem is we are already near finals but bullying worsened so, can I ba able to Homeschool for the sake of just finishing the 4th grading?
Tina says
Hi, Xiley! Sorry to hear about the bullying. Have you talked to your parents about your concern? Or maybe a teacher that you trust? That should be the first step to take, I think. About homeschooling, usually students are accepted before the start of a new school year, though this depends on the specific homeschool provider. For starters, maybe you can try inquiring at each of the providers listed in this post. Praying for you!
CHARIE says
Hi Tina!
So glad I found your blog. My 3 girls were born in California where I homeschooled my eldest as first grader. We came home in Philippines 2 years ago and decided to send them to school here. Both my eldest and her sister went to the same class together on 1st grade as dep-ed would not accept homeschool.from the US. What prompted me to look online is that, we are going back home in california in 3 weeks and hubby wants to have our girls homeschooled again. Question, if I get dep-ed accredited provider, will I be able to enroll my girls in any school anywhere in the Phils if we decided to stay here again and do school? Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! And oh, congrats on the new bundle of joy!
GOD bless!
Tina says
Hi Charie! I am so sorry for the late reply; apparently my reply last month was not published for some reason. Anyway, regarding your question, yes, technically if you enroll with a DepEd-accredited provider, you will be able to enroll your girls in any school anywhere in the Philippines. 🙂 God bless!
Fallon says
Hi, I just want to know if we already have (in the Philippines) senior high school home schooling. I’m kinda worried about it bc the last school I have doesn’t have it this year they said that it would definitely be accredited next year. I have my health problems that’s why I took home study for the past two years. My mom told me to take an exam for acceleration in DepEd but I thought I can take regular school for my grade 12th yr that’s why I’m taking the fuss right now. Please help me to look for any home schooled senior high schools. 🙂
Tina says
Hi, Fallon! Sorry but for now, since the K-12 program is still relatively “new,” there are no local homeschool providers that provide Grades 11 and 12. Thus, DepEd is asking 11th and 12th graders to enroll in brick-and-mortar (conventional) schools.
danielle pineda says

Marie Perez says
Hi Tina,
I’m a mom thinking of homeschooling my daughters. I noticed TMA is on top of your list of DEP-ED accredited homeschool providers. I am a devout catholic and my concern is will they require you to teach your daughter topics that would otherwise be contrary to our faith? Like Religion books that they are requiring you to purchase and study, etc.
Thank you.
Tina says
Hi Marie,
Thanks for your comment. I am sorry if you think TMA is on top of my list because I think it is the “best” provider out there… It just so happened that it’s on top of the list! 🙂 There are certainly many good things about TMA, but the same goes for CFA and Peniel and the other providers. 🙂 Just putting that out there. Hehe!
Having said that though, I completely understand your concerns and would like to tell you that I know quite a number of Catholics who are enrolled with TMA, and based on their feedback, they are not in any way “required” to teach topics that contradict the Catholic faith. They do suggest books that you might want to go through carefully or discuss carefully with your kids to make sure they understand the Catholic point of view of certain topics. 🙂
Of course, you can also consider Catholic Filipino Academy as a provider. 🙂 Feel free to contact them via . God bless!

Hello Ma’am
May I know how much would be the cost for a son to have home study program.
My son beam Angelo is 8 and will be on his grade 4 this school year. He has been a consistent too 1 in his school though but it come to his mind to try home study because he don’t want bully classmates and uncomfortable school classroom due to lack of air con supply.
Please have an advise.
Thanx
Apolinario Fernandez
Tina says
Hi, Apolinario! 🙂 The cost of homeschooling depends on a few factors, like which homeschool provider you will enroll in, and on what your family is willing to invest in when it comes to materials, enrichment programs, etc. If you want to have an idea of what tuition is like at different providers, I suggest you contact each of them yourself, as fees vary from year to year. Hope this helps! God bless!

Can she enroll to a homeschooling? Can you please suggest what school is nearer to our residence, Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte, which is DepEd accredited?
Tina says
Hi, Marites! Sorry to hear about your niece. You might want to try contacting Catholic Filipino Academy (www.catholicfilipinoacademy.com). They accept provincial enrollees. For faster communication, I suggest you contact them via their Facebook page — just search for Catholic Filipino Academy. Hope this helps. Prayers for your niece and your family!
Irish says
Is it possible to be home schooled even when your parents have not graduated college?
Tina says
It depends on the homeschool provider, but generally, based on DepEd’s requirements, the teaching parent must at least be a college graduate.
Nenita Nuevo says
Hi Tina,
I would like to inquire if there is offering for homeschooling service where, the instructor/teacher go to the house to teach? The case is, I have a friend whose son (my godson) is currently staying in the Philippines due to sickness. They are actually based in Dubai but since her son is taking medication and chemo here in Philippines she wanted to enroll him in study program where the boy gets home schooling. The reason for this is the child can’t go to normal school due to lack of immune system.
Would the option be possible. Hope you can help 🙂 Thanks a lot!
Tina says
Hi Nenita,
Usually what some parents do in such cases is hire a tutor to implement the homeschool provider’s curriculum or lesson plans. However, it would still be best to have a parent or trusted guardian to oversee the homeschooling. If you want, you can try inquiring at different homeschool providers about your options. Hope everything works out for your friend and godson! God bless!
Martina says
Hi, Miss Tina. I’m Martina an 18 year old high school drop out. I plan on going back to school and finishing High School to get into College. I was not able to Finish my 4th year of high school (before k-12 was implemented) due to certain complications. I now want to know where I can finish my High School via Home or Online because I am uncomfortable being back to a regular High School. Do you have any suggestions in which I can continue and get a High school diploma? Also, I’d like to inform that my mother is a single parent who does not have a diploma.
Tina says
Hi Martina! 🙂 You can try contacting Catholic Filipino Academy or try exploring the ALS (just google DepEd Alternative Learning System). Same goes for your mom; she can explore the ALS. Hope everything works out for you guys! God bless!
Martina says
Thank you for your answer! I have done research on ALS and it sounds like the solution for me, I can get my diploma right after completion, correct? Thank you again. 🙂
Tina says
Yes, technically, you can. As long as you pass the exams! Prayers for you! 🙂 God bless!

Hi. i would like to ask are there any available homeschooling programs that could cater people outside of luzon like here in bacolod city, negros occidental? . if so is it possible to start in July or august since iam still enrolled at lasalle and iam currently a grade 10 student thanks.
Tina says
Hi Jpshua! Unfortunately, there are no homeschool providers/programs yet that provide Grades 11 and 12 programs. DepEd has not allowed any of the local providers to have such programs yet. Praying you will be able to continue schooling still! God bless!

Hello there,
I might want to approach if homeschooling is took into consideration secondary school understudies or high school students, I am right now a grade 8 student.
Also, on the off chance that it is, I might want to exchange schools quickly, yet right? I mean its been days since the beginning of classes.
And I think there’s no school here in Mindanao that offers homeschooling, I severely wanted to be home educated. Kindly help me.
Tina says
Hi Glory!
Thanks for your message. There are homeschool providers that accept even provincial students; one of them is Catholic Filipino Academy. Try contacting them — visit their website http://www.catholicfilipinoacademy.com for more information. God bless!

Hi! I am planning to enroll my child in home school but I wanted somewhat Christian way since we are Christians, I mean we attend a Christian church. I am a single mom and I work at home. Can you recommend some Christian home schooling that was accredited by DepEd and also the rates if possible.
Thank you.
Tina says
Hi Hedane! 🙂 Maybe you can inquire at Homeschool Global (formerly TMA Homeschool). 🙂 They are a homeschool provider affiliated with CCF. 🙂
Angie says
Hello, i live in Philippines but i wonder if its legal or possible to find and enroll my child in US Based curiculum? Will Deped still consider it?
Tina says
Hi Angie! 🙂 Yes, it’s possible but your child will have U.S. records so will be considered as someone who studied in a foreign school. He/she might have to take DepEd validating exams once you decide to enroll him/her in a brick and mortar school, depending on the brick and mortar/conventional schools he/she will be going to afterwards.

Would they allow me to teach? I worked 10 years as a Preschool teacher part-time before i resigned.
Tina says
Hi Shan! DepEd currently has the requirement that the teaching parent should be a college graduate. However, if you want, you may inquire at the different homeschool providers too. Thanks! 🙂
Alexander says
Fascinating topic. I had to read the entire article to finally understand how the title of the article made any sense. I’m from the US, and when we homeschooled there, we didn’t “enroll” them for anything – that’s the whole point of homeschooling… So it’s really confusing to real all this talk of being “enrolled in a homeschooling program.” It’s just really bizarre.
We live in the Philippines now, and our children are progressing through various informal math courses, Khan academy, and we are working on them to help get them sub-entry level remote jobs doing transcription work online (the oldest is 8 years old, and our oldest three can all touch-type at 40 WPM+).
I don’t see the point in trying to get any piece of paper (diploma) for them from any educational institution at all, but I know over here in the Philippines, culturally, it’s a matter of life and death that all children go to college.
The hard part for us is finding other large, independent families just to fellowship with, which is why we stumbled upon this blog. My wife most of all would like some friends who can appreciate building a large productive family. All of her Filipina friends here are single, no children, in their 30’s, still focused on their careers…
Tina says
Hi Alexander,
Thanks for “dropping by”! 🙂 Actually, I do agree with you on some points. There is still a long way to go here in terms of homeschooling, actually. Where are you based her in the Philippines? If you are looking to be with other homeschoolers, you may want to consider attending the Philippine Homeschool Conference 2016 on Oct 22. You can find more details here: http://www.educatingforlife.co 🙂

Hi, Lovella! It depends on what homeschool provider you will enroll her in. I suggest you contact each of them or try contacting the Homeschool Association of the Philippine Islands on Facebook so they can help you out. God bless!

Hi! I wanna be homeschooled and I’m grade 9. I’m not being bullied in school, I just don’t like going out, I just want to stay at home. I just don’t like being in crowd. Srsly. And I don’t like waking up at 5 am to get ready for school, ugh. I hate it. What’s it like to be homeschooled? And how does it work? How am I going to tell my parents that I want to ve homeschooled? 😢 how much is the tuition fee?
Tina says
Hi, Hannazelle! So sorry for the late reply. Perhaps you can ask your parents if you can attend an orientation about homeschooling. Catholic Filipino Academy has one coming up for high school (you can see the schedule and more details here:
Hope this helps somehow. God bless!

Hi Ms. Tina! Glad to have stumbled upon your blog. I’ve been browsing and reading alot abt homeschooling these past few weeks. I am planning to homeschool my kids aged 11 & 13. We are currently based here in dubai. I’m choosing between Homeschool Global ( they recently opened a hub here in dubai ) or School of tomorrow ( i have a friend whose kids are currently enrolled there and she has very nice things to say abt it ) I really wanted Homeschool Global but their fees are quite pricey compared to SOT. Can i ask for an advice if u think there is a big difference between their curriculums? I’ve already read about VCIS and Peniel. I hope you could help me in a way so I could choose the best homeschool provider for my kids. It will be our first time to homeschool. I just wana make sure I won’t regret pulling them out from regular school 🙂
Tina says
Hi, Pam! 🙂 Thanks for your comment. I guess the main difference between HG and SOT is HG is more flexible when it comes to curriculum, because SOT uses PACES lang talaga (as far as I know). If you’re a member of the Homeschoolers of the Philippines FB group, you can also try asking your question there, so that you can get inputs from other people, especially those enrolled with HG and SOT. I hope this helps somehow! God bless. 🙂

Hi! 🙂 My suggestion is you contact homeschool providers like Catholic Filipino Academy about their homeschool discovery time for high school. Check http://www.catholicfilipinoacademy.com or their Facebook page for details. God bless!

Hi Tina,
Good day!
Would like to inquire if there’s a homeschooling institution in Caloocan City (Near Balintawak-Bagong Barrio Area).
Due to a health problem (Asthma) our son was advice by his pedia to quit school last year. Homeschooling is the recommended option for him but we don’t have details about it. Hoping your kind assistance or recommendation near our place.
Your blog is very helpful, please continue to be a blessing to others.
Kind regards,
Reycel

Hi Reycel! 🙂 Praise God for your kind words! I am glad you find this blog helpful. Regarding your inquiry, you need not enroll naman with a homeschooling institution that is located in your city, as most, if not all, the homeschool providers I know of accept students from almost anywhere. For starters, you might want to contact the providers listed in this post. Hope this helps! God bless.
