If you’re a work-at-home mom (WAHM) like me, I’m sure you find online shopping to be SUCH a blessing — it’s so much more convenient and easier to look for what you need (and sometimes, what you want, too) on e-commerce sites. Once you’ve found it, you just need to click a few buttons, type a few words and/or digits, and you’re good to go!
Actually, I think ALL people — not just WAHMs — find that shopping online is, in some ways, a lot better than going to the mall or other shops to buy stuff. However, some people may still prefer to go to actual brick-and-mortar stores for their purchases. To each his own, right? Admittedly, I used to be one of those people — I loved going to bazaars, mall sales, etc. I loved to window shop and spend hours going around stores.
But then I became a mom. And now that I’m a mom of three, the youngest being a baby, I’ve found myself wanting to stay at home more. (I guess I’m not as young or energetic as I used to be either, ha, ha!)
Lately, I’ve found myself browsing online stores more often, and purchasing items through them. Because of the convenience of online shopping, it’s so much easier to avail of great deals — including buying tickets to places like The Mind Museum or paying for hotel accommodations on deal sites like Cash Cash Pinoy.
However, a lot of Filipinos tend to miss opportunities like the ones I mentioned above, or a memorable overseas trip with friends, mainly because of customer fear, specifically the fear of using one’s credit card and submitting financially sensitive information. (I used to write articles about identity fraud so believe me, such fears are valid!)
It’s a good thing that secure online shopping is very much possible, especially through services provided by different banks and payment providers. One such provider is Maybank — all Maybank Credit Cardholders can rest easy, knowing that they are protected when they shop online through Maybank Secure Online Shopping (MSOS).
MSOS provides a One-Time-Password to its Maybank MasterCard and Maybank Visa cardholders every time they perform a transaction on a 3D secure site. 3D secure sites are labeled with “Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode.”
Here’s a quick overview of how it works:
- When the Maybank Credit Cardholder is ready to check out his/her items in a 3D secure site for payment, he/she needs to fill out the necessary details.
- Next, the Maybank Credit Cardholder will be directed to an authentication page and will receive a One-Time-Password in his/her registered mobile phone number within 30-45 seconds.
- Last, the Maybank Credit Cardholder must enter the One-Time-Password he/she received in the authentic page to complete the transaction. The One-Time-Password will only be valid for five minutes.
Easy, right?
MSOS is a free service and the Maybank Credit Cardholder just needs to make sure that his/her current mobile number is registered.
What’s even more convenient is that the Maybank Credit Cardholder doesn’t need to call the customer service if they’ve already been receiving transaction alerts and other SMS for Maybank Credit Card. This definitely makes looking for great deals online much easier, don’t you think?
Now, please don’t get me wrong here. You all know that I am NOT one to focus on material things. So I’m not telling you guys to shop till you drop! But if you do plan to buy something or pay for something online, make sure that you’re doing it safely and securely. Using the MSOS is ONE way to do so.
Having said that, let me end by giving you some food for thought:
The most important things in life are not things.
