I wasn’t able to write this post earlier because something happened… my grandfather (shown below) — whom I had shared about in previous posts — passed away. He lived a long, full life, and would have been 89 this Ash Wednesday, March 5, which is also his birthday. So, in a way, it will be a different kind of Lent for our family.
Just as Lent is a time for recalling Jesus’ suffering and death, we will also be grieving my Lolo‘s death and, just as we rejoice in the Resurrection, we will also rejoice, knowing that God has called my grandfather Home. I wrote a post recently on Upside Down Homeschooling about 5 Ways to Keep Love in Lent, as part of this blog link-up. You can click on the image below to read it.
I ended that post by saying:
To keep love in Lent, we must remember that lent is all about loving Jesus. If we have so many grand plans and traditions yet forget to focus on Jesus, His love for us and respond to that love, then it is all for nothing.
As we ‘celebrate’ a different kind of Lent this year, without my grandfather, I take courage in the knowledge that THIS LIFE, our life here on earth, is but temporary. And while we are here, we must do all we can to keep the love alive — the love for God and for others. This is why Jesus came, this is why He suffered, died and rose again. This Lent and beyond, let’s do what we can to keep the love alive.
