You Can Homeschool: Join Us on November 16! (Plus a Giveaway!)

Ever since we started homeschooling (well, more appropriately, realized that what we were doing was actually already homeschooling), I have been trying to encourage other people to at least explore the concept of teaching their kids at home. I even set up a separate homeschool blog when our eldest was still in preschool. I get inquiries from strangers, friends and family members about homeschooling.

Admittedly though, I am no expert and I still have a lot to learn about homeschooling. And yes, to be completely honest, there are days when I think, “Can I REALLY do this? Homeschool my kids? Teach them what they need to know?” (Yep, even non-newbies like me have those moments!)

It’s a good thing then that Manila Workshops and The Learning Basket are holding the YOU CAN HOMESCHOOL! BE INSPIRED, BE INFORMED, BE EMPOWERED! event on November 16, 2013. It will be a great opportunity for me, as someone who’s currently homeschooling, to be inspired again, and reminded of why we have chosen to take this road less traveled by, as my new friend Jamie of Simple Homeschool calls it. If you’re not a homeschooler and are considering homeschooling, or are simply just curious to know what homeschooling is all about, this event is perfect for you, too!

Homeschooling is a global movement that is now becoming a viable option for Filipino families who want to provide their children with education beyond a classroom’s walls.

Manila Workshops, a company dedicated to continuing education for professional and personal goals, and The Learning Basket, an advocacy that inspires parents to be their children’s first and best teacher, have come together to offer an event jam-packed with information and inspiration about homeschooling that will help parents who are considering to educate their children at home.

You Can Homeschool! Be Inspired, Be Informed, Be Empowered! Is a day-long event happening on November 16, 2013, Saturday, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM at One Events and Café, One Corporate Center, Julia Vargas cor Meralco Ave, Pasig City.

Parents who are exploring, or are unsure of their homeschooling path, are encouraged to attend You Can Homeschool to gain an intimate look and understanding of home education. The key speakers of this event, Thammie Sy, Frannie Daez (who happens to be a published book author too), and , have all found their calling in homeschooling their children.

Here are some highlights to look forward to:

Be inspired by our speakers as they share about homeschooling from the heart, developing the homeschooling mindset, and how to homeschool in the Philippines

An overview of the homeschooling providers in the country, and the various services that they offer.

Intimate break-out discussions with homeschooling parents (Ahem.. I will be one of the facilitators for this, so I hope to meet you guys there! 😉 )

At the end of this summit, we hope to inspire parents to take on an active role in the education of their child. We aim to help them be informed of the realities of homeschooling, and learn how they can do it, too. Lastly, we want parents to be empowered with the inspiration and knowledge they have gained to take on the role of “teacher” in their homes.

UPDATED! Truly Rich Recommendations: Babies to Toddlers Online Shop + An {Amazing Grace Easter} Giveaway!

Last month, I was privileged to be invited to the launch of Babies to Toddlers, an online shop that offers hard-to-find items for babies and toddlers. I was really psyched that I was among the mom bloggers invited — you all know that I don’t consider this blog to be as “famous” as other local mom blogs, right? 😉 So I was really humbled and honored to be there. You can see some of the pictures of the launch .

I had actually heard of Babies to Toddlers even before the launch, through Martine’s blog, Dainty Mom. I’d seen some of the items they offered back then, and am pleased that there are a lot more options and brands available now.

This Aqueduck Children Faucet Extender is one of the items featured on Martine’s blog a few years back. I thought it was a really cool product, and I still think it is actually! :)

Babies to Toddlers is a one-stop shop that carries a carefully selected assortment of the finest quality baby gear, nursing and feeding accessories, baby aids plus a variety of wooden mobiles, toys, and more. You’ll really be surprised at how innovative some of the items are. When I browsed through their revamped website a while back, I actually wanted to make a wish list for Baby Anne right that very moment! 🙂

One of the things I like about Babies to Toddlers is the fact that “each product is pre-selected for innovation, excellence, social consciousness, development appropriateness and styles.” Who does this, you may ask?

Well, a fellow mommy, of course! 🙂 Mompreneur Teresa Rufino, who happens to have two kids of her own, developed and runs BabiestoToddlers.com, along with her uber-supportive husband Charles.

See how supportive Charles is in the photos below? 🙂 I love how both he and Teresa are intentional about their parenting. 🙂 After the launch proper, we were able to talk a bit about breastfeeding and taking care of our babies. 🙂

Teresa and Charles describe their online shop as a no-nonsense website made for busy parents on the go. The website itself is simple and utilitarian in design, with all the features of the latest online stores sans the clutter.

Ah goo Grab and Go Bag — I like that this is “unisex” in appearance. 🙂 Most of the baby bags available locally have prints that are too girly, and I want one that hubby can use too.

Maamam Multi-Use Hooded Towel — This would be great for keeping myself dry while drying Anne at the same time too. :)

Undercover Mama Nursing Shirt — I have no nursing clothes at all and would love to have one of these! :)

Peek Away 4 in 1 Nursing Pillow Kit — This would be nice to have! :)

Melissa and Doug Bella Butterfly Picnic Set — For our little Therese, of course! :)

Golly Gee-Pers Table Manners Game — For Tim, and for Rysse, too! :)

Zoli Buzz B Baby Nail Trimmer — I have this phobia of cutting our babies’ nails, because when Rysse was a baby, I wounded her little finger when I tried cutting her nails! 🙁 So this would really come in handy!

Life Must Go On: On Being Intentional Parents {Plus a Giveaway by Earth Baby}

I know the title of this post may seem lame to some of you out there… But I don’t know what else to say. You all probably already know that we lost my father-in-law very recently. And I realize that this post may seem to be in “bad timing” and all, but, like it says in the title: “Life must go on.” After all, isn’t that the only thing that inevitably happens when a loved one dies? The world keeps turning, your life keeps going, you need to go back to “functioning” on a daily basis.

True, yes, that we need to go back to “functioning.” But I’d like to believe that beyond functioning, we need to live life with an even greater purpose. We need to be more intentional and deliberate in what we think, say and do. Especially as parents. We need to be more thoughtful about what we do and how we parent our kids.

Be thoughtful and intentional parents… like moms Jeanette Un and Marie Antipasado, who are the owners of , an online store selling modern reusable cloth diapers and cloth diapering accessories. {OK, yes, that was my segue. In case you didn’t see it coming. ;)}
